The Angry Atheist Myth

The “Angry Atheist” Myth
It’s NOT true, and here’s why…

There is an “Angry Atheist” myth out there, in the press, on religious programs, and anecdotally.

Atheists are all said to be angry, to hate religion and god.

This is a myth and is untrue… yes, there are some angry atheists but they are a small minority.

Most atheists don’t care about religion… there is really nothing for them to “hate”, they mostly just want to be left alone.

It is unfair to stereotype a whole group of people by a small minority.

Most atheists don’t want to be compared to a small number of people on YouTube and the internet, who attack people’s religion and beliefs.

There is also a small minority of “angry” and “militant” religious believers who are in your face with their beliefs.

However, most Christians don’t want to be lumped together and compared to Westboro Baptist Church.

Let me close by dispelling this “angry atheist” myth and leaving you with a more realistic perspective.

Most atheists are NOT angry. They don’t care about religion that much, and just want to be left alone.

Most religious believers are NOT angry or militant. They don’t want to be judged by a small minority, and want to be respected for their beliefs.

I think religious believers tend to overestimate the concern others have for their religious beliefs…

Next time you hear about the “angry atheists” out there, stop and think about it. It is a MYTH.

Remember, it is no more true than the “angry Christian” myth.

There are a lot of misunderstandings between atheists and religious believers. We should work together to break down these stereotypes.

I would like to offer a “middle ground” approach, to get people to think about how they view others.
