Does Atheism Deny God?

Does Atheism Deny God? – “Yes, It Should!”

This video makes a case for atheists to actively deny god, rather than just claim “there isn’t enough evidence”.

The distinction between weak atheism and strong atheism is noted, and as an example, the book by Victor Stenger “God, the Failed Hypothesis: How Science Shows That God Does Not Exist” is noted.

This is the 3rd and last video in the series “Does Atheism Deny God?”.

Does Atheism Deny God?
Yes, it should!

Does atheism deny god? For all practical purposes, yes!
The issue is:

is atheism a “disbelief” / or a “belief”
does atheism actively DENY god, or just not proven or convinced?

An earlier video in this series talks about “definitions of atheism”, and a helpful part in that video talks about “weak atheism” and “strong atheism”

Branches of atheism

Atheism
Negative (weak) atheism: Also known as implicit atheism, this is the general concept of believing that there is no god or gods. Negative atheists are often called “agnostic atheists” because their belief is based on the absence of a belief in a god, rather than a conviction that there is no god.

Positive (strong) atheism: Also known as explicit and Gnostic atheism, this belief includes an active denial of god or gods, normally based on logic or evidence. Positive atheists tend to be more assertive about their atheism and are more likely to strongly oppose religion in the public sphere.I think that is the most helpful way to look at this issue.

After looking at this issue in some depth, I have come to the conclusion that “strong atheism” makes the most sense overall.

Weak atheism is more for “children” and those who don’t even think about it or care about it one way or the other

I think atheism SHOULD actively deny god, rather than squabble over definitions and scholarly debate.

Religious believers don’t consider the fine points of these arguments and definitions… for the most part they think that ALL atheists are strong atheists.

So, this is just my personal opinion, but I think atheists should just step up to the plate and deny god.

It is simpler, more clean, and saves the aggravation of debating believers over definitions they don’t really accept anyway.

I am not trying to tell atheists what to do, just what I think.

Many people say this won’t work, because to deny god you are then put in a position to “prove” god doesn’t exist.

I can’t easily prove god doesn’t exist, but there ARE arguments that can be made to show that god doesn’t exist.

For example, Victor Stenger in his book “God, the Failed Hypothesis: How Science Shows That God Does Not Exist.”

He talks about the nature of scientific evidence and many other aspects of this argument. I recommend this book if you want to know how science shows that god does not exist.

So, to summarize, it is my opinion that atheists should consider just stepping outside of the definitional arguments of atheism, and just outright deny god. It is quicker, easier, and more “real world”
