Atheism Has No Answers

Atheism Has No Answers (It’s kind of scary being an Atheist)

People who like answers, especially easy answers, don’t normally gravitate towards atheism.

People who want a lot of answers and like the surety of their beliefs will be horrified at the emptiness of atheism.

I was struck while watching a show about a woman who was a devout Lutheran who switched to being a Catholic. She seemed to want to be really sure of her answers.

The very structure, and the depth of the firm answer is exactly what the church provided for her, and seemed very important to her.

She felt the Catholic Church offered all of the answers. The volumes of doctrine, the rules, the whole package – seemed to be something that she really liked.

In fact she specifically mentioned the size of the catechism of the catholic church (over 800 pages I think).

So the complication and depth of the religious organization seemed to lend credibility for her – and gave her a surety she needed.

The only surety in atheism – is that there is no god.

Atheism leaves you on your own for finding the answers to mystery.

You get no answers and no security / There is no support mechanism in atheism.

Atheism is empty because it is a disbelief, not a belief!

Atheism can be intimidating to believers because they can’t imagine having no answers, having no security.

It is kind of scary being an Atheist… there is nothing to fall back on, no comforting beliefs to take the edge off.
